NEW CONTENT & WHAT’S COMING

We are pleased to report that all the energy content developed by Eskom is online. The other good news is that our high school test papers platform will be launching soon. We are very excited about this as this will be very beneficial for exam preparation. We’ll keep you posted.

LATEST EDUCATION NEWS

We always like to bring to notice, things happening on the education scene in South Africa. As I have looked around at teachers doing exciting things in education, we congratulate our four South African teachers selected as Microsoft Innovative Educator Experts for 2015 who recently returned from the Microsoft E2 Global Educator Exchange that took place in Seattle. This Microsoft Innovative Educator Expert yearly competition looks like something really worthwhile for teachers to enter. We’ll keep you informed of closing dates on our Facebook page.

We were also invited to Goodwood Primary School to the Pick N Pay School Club showcase. Since 2003, Pick n Pay School Club, together with its 16 partners have been supplying educational resources to schools to assist with the classroom teaching. The Pick n Pay CEO and Board Members sat in the lessons to see how teachers use the resources they provide to the schools to make learning more exciting and fun. The event was hosted by YoTV presenter, Jessica Tims and was a humbling experience to see how grateful the staff and principal were for the provision of their continuous educational resources from Pick N Pay School Club. Well done to HDI Youth Marketing for putting such an incredible event together.

We also congratulate the Grade 5 class at our local Rock Academy School in Fish Hoek for winning the international Global Virtual Classroom website design competition. I believe this was a team effort where they worked on a six month collaborative project along with a school in Taiwan and a school in the United States. Well done to them! If there is something exciting happening in your school please let us know via our Facebook page so that we can celebrate with you.

UPCOMING CONFERENCES

There are a number of ICT conferences coming up – that is always a good way for you to keep abreast of what is happening in education.

The SchoolNet conference takes place from 1-3 July in Durban and The Inspired Teachers’ Conference will be taking place in Johannesburg in August. They have an impressive line-up of presenters which includes the well-known creative Mathematics teacher from the USA, Dr Chris Emdin, who uses Hip Hip to teach Maths: http://goo.gl/o2MIKK.

The Inspired Teachers’ Conference recognizes and learns from the teachers who know how to light up a classroom; share leadership lessons and inspiration with our teaching community and focuses on celebrating excellence in teaching.

In October, the famed Google in Education Summits are taking place in two cities. One of them is being hosted by Parklands College in Cape Town: http://za.gafesummit.com/. These local conferences always have amazing overseas and local presenters, so do investigate these outstanding professional development opportunities.

That’s all for now. Don’t forget to subscribe to our Facebook page and follow us on Twitter. We wish our teachers a well-earned rest during the July vacation

Until next time…

Serving you in education
Natalie
