18 July 2018 Nelson Mandela Day
“Education is the great engine of personal development. It is through education that the daughter of a peasant can become a doctor, that the son of a mine worker can become the head of the mine, that a child of farm workers can become the president of a great nation. It is what we make out of what we have, not what we are given, that separates one person from another” - Nelson Mandela
Mandela Day is about changing the world for the better, just as Nelson Mandela did every day. In the spirit of Madiba and his legacy, we call on educators to submit a fun story that we can use for a child to enjoy. Many children don’t have access to books written in their mother tongue, but often it is in this way that they form a lasting connection and joy with books. Story-telling is a way of passing on history and teaching children about life.
If you would like to submit a fun, interesting, story or folktale that may be published on the e-Classroom platform, (any grade from R-12), please send submissions to [email protected]. E-Classroom will choose a total of 15 stories to illustrate and make available for FREE on its platform for learners. Stories should not be longer than 2 A4 size pages and can be written in English, Afrikaans, Zulu or Xhosa.

News on improved reading ability in new published trial 2017
Dr Mats Johnson presents Equazen eye q clinical trial at Swiss Neuro-paediatrics Association annual meeting showing improved reading ability. Omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids are important membrane components of the brain. Accumulating evidence from epidemiological, biochemical and intervention studies indicate that suboptimal dietary intake of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids can have detrimental effects on children’s cognitive development and behaviour. The study showed that: eye q improves reading ability in mainstream schoolchildren; eye q is well tolerated and has a high compliance similar to that of placebo. Read more here about the key findings. |
