SACE Accredited Workshops:

Cannons Creek Primary School – Pinelands

Our SACE accredited CPD workshop on Social Emotional Learning has been extremely well received. Feedback from the workshop hosted by Llandudno Primary in July was very positive and delegates expressed how much they had enjoyed the afternoon and how much was learnt. Many delegates added that they were already using many of the ideas and strategies shared in their classrooms. The next workshop is being hosted by Cannons Creek Primary School in Pinelands, Cape Town, on 26 August from 13h00 to 16h30. There are a handful of spaces still available, please email [email protected] if you would like to attend.

Social Emotional Learning in the spotlight at ISASA’s Proudly Primary Conference

Linda Bruce, creator of our SEL CPD Workshop, presented at the Proudly Primary Conference last week on a much needed shift in primary school education towards a ‘whole child approach’ that prioritizes the development of a child’s IQ and EQ. The ability to emotionally self-regulate and become ready to learn to a critical 21st century skill that lays the foundation for critical thinking, collaboration, creativity and resilience. The workshop was booked to capacity and very well received. One teacher commented:

“You were truly a light bulb moment when it comes to the reason why so many of our children do not make the necessary academic progress that teachers expect from them. Thank you for truly helping me reach an understanding of how to tackle some of our problems in developing our pupils to be more equipped to learn.”

If your school would like to host a workshop and receive massive discounts for their educators (for every ten teachers attending the workshop, the host school can now include an additional 5 teachers for free) please complete the booking form and email it to: [email protected]

Revision papers:

Educators and parents, please don’t forget about our interactive maths and science revision papers for the upcoming exams. These provide a platform for learners to practise their knowledge and receive immediate results. Learners can work at their own pace and the instant feedback lets them know exactly what subject areas they’re good at, and what still needs a bit of attention. We have made them available from our mobi-site as well as the Google Play Store and AppStore.

ADESSA acts as the voice of the e-education industry

With the increasing number of e-education products coming on the market – computer hardware, ebooks, content, training programs, and related products and services – it is important to know that the supplier of these products are reputable and that they understand the needs of teachers.

ADESSA (Associated Distributors of Educational Supplies in Southern Africa) was established in 2003 as a professional body, making sure that its members adhere to ethical business standards and that they understand the needs of education. So when you procure your e-education products from an ADESSA member, you will have the assurance that you are dealing with a reputable company.

ADESSA informs education departments and other institutions about technology trends; it also acts as a medium of communication from government to the industry, so that the members remain informed about the latest policies affecting e-education. ADESSA also listens to the teacher in the classroom, in order to inform its members about the real needs out there.

e-Classroom has decided to join ADESSA and together we plan to render an even better service to our teachers in the classroom.

IFAW

Grade 6 Animal welfare ambassador search

The aim of the IFAW Animal Ambassador initiative is to provide a platform whereby young people, who are fond of and who respect animals, are given an opportunity to share the importance of caring for animals with their peers. Educational resources have been developed which are curriculum linked and which can now be distributed by the IFAW ambassadors in their schools and community.

The response has been so overwhelming that all the entrants who participated in this competition are equally deserving of the title. We hope, even if they are not chosen this time around, that they will still continue to be ambassadors for our animals and environment, both in their school and their community.

We congratulate the following IFAW Ambassador winners:

July: Iyaaz Mayet from Thorntree Preparatory and Megan Smith from Panorama Primary

August: Keira Damoense from Montrose Primary School and Gabriella Scott from Roedean Primary School

We wish them luck in their endeavour to promote the IFAW educational awareness.
